Nanouk Tradescantia

Tradescantia ‘Nanouk’ is a colorful, fast-growing houseplant with elongated leaves striped in shades of green, cream, pink, and purple. Its trailing growth habit makes it especially pretty in a hanging planter or displayed where the stems can spill over the edge.

FUN FACT: Nanouk was intentionally bred in the Netherlands as a new Tradescantia variety and was selected for its colorful foliage and compact, sturdy growth. It’s one of those plants that looks like it was painted by hand!
LIGHT: Bright, indirect light is best for maintaining its vibrant pink and purple coloring. It can tolerate some direct morning sun, but strong afternoon sunlight may scorch the leaves.
WATER: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid keeping the soil constantly soggy.
SOIL: Use a light, well-draining potting mix. A standard houseplant mix amended with perlite works well and helps prevent the roots from staying too wet.
BLOOM: Mature plants may produce small, three-petaled pink or purple flowers. Blooms are most likely when the plant receives plenty of bright light.
PROPAGATION: Very easy to propagate from stem cuttings. Cut just below a node and place the cutting in water or directly into moist soil. Roots develop quickly, making it easy to create a fuller plant.
